Welcome to the unnofficial Belchertown High School Band website, here to remind you that band is fun, exciting and a
great expirience. We all know that for years now, our band has had the reputation of being one of the best around. Who can
forget the times we've marched down the street at the Big-E or the Holyoke St. Patricks Day Parade, only to hear the comments
from the bystanders. "There are SO many of them!" or "That must be their entire school!" and let's not forget the ever famous
"Listen to them! That's a HIGH SCHOOL band?!". It's been said before that in order to have a great parade, you need a great
band, and Belchertown High School is more than great. We've had superior ratings, perfect scores, and some really fun, memorable
times.
So, is being in band all slacking off and going on trips? Not at all. Going on trips, to festivals and parades, is a
priveledge we have earned through our hard work and dedication. It isn't an easy thing to become an exceptional player, think
of how long it took you to get this far. All the private lessons , practicing every school day, many of us since the
5th grade. We're lucky that in our town we have such a strong music program, and lucky to have had such good directors, who
always push us to be our best. Class of '07, remember our student intern Melissa Straton? Remember how we complained about
after school sectionals and the constant words of "practice practice practice!" Oh, it was far from easy, and very frusterating
at times. But you know what? In the end, it became a legend. I'll still catch someone humming or fingering the notes to IMANI
every once in awhile. It just goes to prove that with our willingness to work hard, we can accomplish the impossible. As for
everyone else, think back to past years on the band trip. The bus rides and the amusement parks, staying up late in our hotel
rooms and going out to eat every day, and so much more. Wonderful times right? But would they really have been so great, had
we not worked so hard, not done so well in competition, not played the best we know we can? And besides that, what's better
to top off an awesome trip, than comming home with a handfull of trophies and titles, and the pride of knowing once again,
that we truly are an incredibly talented group. What's the point of me telling you all of this? To remind you, that you
have to work hard to play hard.
